We have the pleasure of inviting you to participate in Intercultural Awareness in Business Conference organized by the Department of Foreign Languages at Poznan University of Technology from April 21st to 23rd, 2010.

Recent years have witnessed an increasing interest in teacher’s role in intercultural approach to EFL teaching, as well as in Business Studies.

The aim of this conference is to bring together teachers, researchers and practitioners in the field of language and culture teaching methodology to freely communicate ideas, exchange views and share experiences.

This year’s conference is planned to be centrally concerned with intercultural communication in the globalized world. The core idea is to divide the conference into two tracks: Intercultural Communication in Language Teaching and Intercultural Communication in Business.

The Conference is centered around the following subject areas:

I . Intercultural Communication in Language Teaching:

Language learning and culture

Preparation of students to communicate in intercultural context
(e.g. meeting & greeting, forms of address)

Developing intercultural skills – cultural awareness in the language classroom

Raising awareness of cultural diversity (e.g. avoiding cultural gaffe)

II. Intercultural Communication in Business:

Cultural issues in business

Cultural factors in communication – behavior at meetings and negotiations

Business protocol – manners of politeness, body language, dress code, business cards

Communication patterns during meetings

The language of management

Management of cultural diversity – social inclusion

International relations

In addition

We can promise dynamic speakers, compelling presentations, panels and workshops that are relevant, thought-provoking, and educational.

Meet leading publishers, to shake hands with the authors whose names you know from coursebook covers as well as to familiarize yourselves with the latest and forthcoming publications in the field.

All events will afford opportunities to network and socialize.

Looking forward to seeing you in Poznan,

Conference organizers:
Karolina Dworek, Iwona Gajewska-Skrzypczak, Dominika Łęska, Agata Sekuła
